What the Tide Couldn’t Take
The tide came in heavy this time
not just water, but the sudden unraveling
of things we thought would hold.
Some of us are just now seeing it,
some of us always knew,
but either way, we’re standing here
with something too big to fix.
And yet, in resistance, there is a hand in the soil.
A small patch of green pushed up anyway.
A table set, a light left on,
a life tended despite the elephant in the room
Not because it changes everything,
but because it saves something.
Even now, with the sky pressing down
and the earth asking to be held together,
there is a refusal to wither
to harden, to stop caring.
The tide can take a lot,
but not what is chosen,
again and again, to grow.
Between Dreams
There’s a moment you can’t hold
when one dream loosens its grip
and another slips in beside it,
threads crossing like quiet conversation
neither one willing to leave just yet
The shapes don’t argue, they blur
soft edges leaning into each other
trying, for a breath, to make sense
of two stories told at once
before one begins to fade
And you’re left somewhere in between
unplaced instead of lost
feeling both the ending and the start
as if the world paused mid-sentence
and let you hear it thinking
I haven't known Autumn for a long time, but I have been absolutely in love with her techniques and hearing about the stories behind her work… I highly recommend everyone check out Autumn's works and pay close attention to the details just below the surface, I know I'll be back for more. Oh, and my roommate absolutely loves the piece!
