The bushes rustle,
whispering to each other
about their new guest upon the hilltop.

Yet they welcome me into their embrace
beneath the bright and hazy sky.
They hide me from the coming and going,
from here and there,
from this and that,
if only for a little while.

When the peace-taker comes
to steal my breath,
they gather to shelter me from his gaze,
and he passes by with all his panic.

If only for a moment,
the hiding place makes good on its promise.
