The rain doesn’t wait for clouds to cover the sky.
It falls freely,
a hush of silver tapping against my skin
while the sun still kisses my face,
warm and steady,
like it never got the memo.
The ground breathes deep,
smells of earth rise up,
rich, wet, alive.
Brown in every shade,
from soft clay to scorched bark,
soaked and shining.
And then
a slash of sky blue,
bright as a breath held too long,
cuts across the moment
like cool-toned lightning,
startling,
beautiful,
a reminder that contrast
is what catches our attention,
what creates these rare moments
that distract us
from our distractions.
I stand in it all,
sun on my cheeks,
rain in my eyes,
knowing some things
can’t be explained.
Only felt.
