We live in a culture that rewards speed, productivity, and always being “on,” but that pace comes at a cost. My work is for people who carry a lot, move fast, and rarely get the chance to stop long enough to hear themselves think. These paintings explore the tension between effort and rest, pressure and presence. They create space to feel what’s actually there, without rushing past it or trying to clean it up. Pride, grief, fatigue, gratitude, longing… whatever rises to the surface is welcome.
Hi, I’m Autumn Hunter.
I’m a mixed media artist creating work for people who carry a lot. The ones building careers, holding families together, making decisions, showing up for everyone else, and feeling the weight of it all every single day.
My paintings are shaped by a deep belief that rest matters. Not just sleep, or a day off, but the kind of rest that comes when you finally have space to breathe, reflect, and feel what’s true. That’s what I want my work to offer: a pause from the noise, and a place to come back to yourself.

I remember the field,
how it stretched forever
in the Wizard of Oz,
scarlet petals waving
like they knew something
we didn’t.
A trap,
a hush wrapped in danger.
But here,
there is no wickedness.
No spell.
Only rest.
The poppies sway gently,
like a lullaby hummed
without words,
just the rhythm of letting go.
A soft place
between the striving
and the arrival.
Dreams drip
from the edges of the petals.
Sleep isn't sabotage here,
it's sacred.
A moment to lie down,
breathe deep,
and let the journey
wait.
These poppies don’t stop me.
They steady me.
They whisper,
even on the way to something great,
you are allowed to pause.
So I do.
I close my eyes,
wrapped in a yellow brick haze,
and let the world blur.

Framing is handmade from 100% ash wood, sourced locally from Zebulon, North Carolina. All lumber was cut and milled by the artist's father. The frame is 3/4 inches wide on all sides of the painting, creating a beautiful border with lovely gray tones in the wood grain.

I see a man with a tinge of regret in his face. A sudden flashback of memories that led up to this point. It may have started with one puff, but now it's a lifestyle.
This painting isn't an anti-nicotine PSA. It's a reflection of the nasty habits we let creep into our lives. The behaviors and beliefs we say are not a big deal, but deep down actually scare us a little.
What does the man do after this moment? Does he make a life change? Or does he ignore this fleeting feeling of regret, and keep strolling down the dark street?
I don't think that's my business. But we can wonder...
